Oh Sirin…Eating Out Loud

My first (and other) book (s)

This is my first book ever. Dichan Suay Ruay Ngok was published by Circle Publishing back in August 2005 and it had gone through 3 reprinting with over 7,000 copies sold. The story is about a young girl deeply in debt but still felt the need to ‘keeping up’ the appearances.

I got this idea when I first met my husband – who is someone cool and calm about what he has. He is my money guru who persuaded me to build a real self-esteem out of the wallet – not from the appearances. The funny thing about this book is that it was so pupular, people bought it for friends and friends, but people who read it usually hid the cover because they didn’t want to be seen reading it. In Thai being Ngok (stingy) is equivalent to being ‘poor,’ but i hope in my tongue-in-cheek style, people can view it differently and beneficially to their own financial health.

I am now in the process of writing up a new book which I still keep it as a secret. I hope to finish it by the end of this year.. and everyday I count on delivering my promise by dragging my … up to my desk and write!!

111-ways

Following quite a contentment of DSRN, my publisher and I decided to run down the tips into 111 ways for Suay Ruay Ngok for those not wanting to go through the whole novel-style proses and want hard facts on how to rid the bad spending habits. This book was published in April 2006. One of the best tips is on how to maximize your yoghurt as both facial exfoliator/breakfast and time-saving tip on how to do both while reading a newspaper.

This is my first-ever attempt to translate a whole book. Back then, I thought it was a walk in the park, but after may be the first 10 pages, I immediately felt like hell. The book is fun, with lots of things to talk about in terms of attractions. But translation of a whole novel, I found, is not really my thing when I have hundreds of other things to do. It just take too much time pondering the right words, and you know words are so variable and I need just the right one to fit each sentence, each mood the author want to convey.. so it is a difficult job. This book was launched back in September 2006.

And here is the most recent work of mine in form of book. They Say These Places Are Delicious, in Hong Kong was first published in March 2008 and ran into the second printing in June the same year. And you know what, the third printing is coming out this April 2009, also with a new succulent cover! designed by Nong Fon… who beautifully created the first book, too.

And this is the latest cover for the HK Food Bible!hk-food-book-3
