Over 200 years ago French food critic Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin wrote, “The discovery of a new dish does more for the happiness of mankind than the discovery of a new star,” and our recent trip to Nakorn Pathom province, about 70 km west of BKK, revealed yet another magical discovery for our happy stomachs.
Despite the skyrocketing fuel prices, we boarded Khun Geng & Khun Ae’s (our best neighbours) Honda (fueled by Khun Geng’s corporate) toward the town just to discover the tastes of the couple’s No.1 chicken noodle soup. Ok, I wrote so much about Khun Ae’s chicken noodle soup and relished it so often; it was my Birthday and they treated me and my hubby to this noodle place.
Tucked in Tesa Soi 2 on Nakorn Pathom’s main road, the noodle stall is at the left corner of the soi when you drive in toward the canal. The best time to go there is by 11am before the rush minutes begin when you’d have to wait for at least 20 minutes for the food.
The menu is simple: chicken noodles dry/soup (only vermicelli and sen lek rice noodles are available), chicken clear soup or chicken broth with chicken meat and giblets. The price is Bt25-30 for noodles, Bt40-50 for chicken broth. You can also ask for steamed rice to go with the condensed broth if you like…
They only sell free range chicken (kai baan) and the proof is in the meat quality. No words were wasted when we munched through 2 bowls of noodles, one chicken broth, one clear chicken soup – each!
One advice, you’d better call Phi Wanna (second generation owner) if the shop is open at T: 083-600-9730 because they’re irregularly closed. Also, the food runs out fast.. you go there 11am sharp or before 2pm.
