On Higher Grounds

View from Red Sky, a higher ground at Centara Grand
Call me crazy, but I didn’t see no better place to dine my worries out on the night of high-tide alert (28th Oct 2011) than Red Sky on the 55th floor of Centara Grand at Central World.
From another angle
Thanks to the deluge inching into the capital, Bangkok was vastly abandoned. Most people wildly evacuated, and many chose to stay on higher grounds. And I chose to share a good meal and lots and lots of confusing flood news with a bunch of girls here on this 55th floor.

As a favorite hang-out choice for young hipsters, Red Sky is a place where you can actually look down at the whole of Bangkok, in a faint hope that a miracle would just happen and that there would be no or less flood and that Thailand would be quickly and safely restored back to its good old glory days.

Red Sky is a bar and restaurant all in one. You need two flights of elevator to get yourself up there. The first lift at Central World will land you on the twenty third floor lobby where you take another elevator that shoots skyward to the top 55th floor. Equipped with what they called ‘wind protection’ screen and a full bar, you can choose to swing around capturing the stunning views of the whole Bangkok while the sun is setting with a good long drink or simply ordering dishes you like and enjoy the company.

Here are what we ate on that ‘red alert’ night. Of course, the conversation was nothing but floods and politics. Our hopes might be gloomy and rare, but our food as tasty as our conversation. Red Sky is perfect for those looking for a good modern European fare, grills, soups, fancy pastas, some good drinks, and of course wonderful views. Or if you are in the mood for assortments of seafood and selections of meat, just order their ‘Sky Surf & Turf Tower’ for two or three to share.
